That God rules in the affairs (interests) of men is a known truth among many believers today. What many of us find difficult to understand is how He rules. In the inspired words of King Solomon, "The labor of the fools wearied them, for they do not KNOW HOW TO GO to the city!" (Ecclesiastes 10:15). Implying that the work or ministry of anyone who lacks the understanding of how to get a work or task or assignment accomplished is a wearying and foolish one.
The challenge many of us have today isn't always about WHAT TO DO; but HOW TO DO! God rules truly in the affairs of men on earth; however, He engages men and women in these sensitive tasks. "The heaven, even the heavens are the LORD's; but the earth He has given to the children of men." (Psalms 115:16). So, while God holds the prerogative power of determining what should be done on earth, He also makes sure that He instructs His "hands and legs - representatives" on how to get things done.
Ministry, in the inspired words of Bishop David Oyedepo (President, Living Faith Church, Worldwide) is running divine errands. It is making oneself useful for a divine assignment. Making oneself a generational tool of get God's job done on earth. It is being relevant on earth in God's will and purpose for humanity.
However, the difficulty we often encounter is know or understanding how to do whatever God expects us to do. And if one is wise and discerning, one would know that the one who gives a work is the best source of inspiration for the execution of the work. Let us quickly see a scenario where God demonstrated the dynamics of His assignment for men.
"Then came the Day of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover must be killed. And He sent Peter and John, saying, "GO AND PREPARE the Passover for us, that we may eat."
So they said to Him, "WHERE DO YOU WANT US TO PREPARE?" And He said to them, "Behold, when you have entered the city, a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him into the house which enters. "Then you shall say to the master of the house, 'The Teacher says to you, "Where is the guest room where I may eat the Passover with My disciples?"'
"Then he will show you a large, furnished upper room; THERE MAKE READY."
So they went and found it just as He had said to them, AND THEY PREPARED THE PASSOVER."
Luke 22:7-13
If you meditate a little further on those words above, you would realize that the reason for competition and struggles in ministries is not because many have not been so called or sent; but some have chosen to run errands for God without the wisdom of God. Ministry entails both the work to be done, and the doing of the work by a person. However, to succeed in ministry without struggling and fighting or lobbying; one must receive the wisdom of God.
Please note, I am not talking about being creative or smart here; but being guided by God on how to enter cities, how to take territories, how to remain married, how to be truthful, how to speak the truth without anger, how to win souls and how to engage the enemies at the city gates. We mustn't just be clear about what God wants us to do, we must RECEIVE His wisdom. We must ask Him per time, the "dummy questions of purpose"!; "How should I do what you want me to do?"; "Now that you want me to get married, how do I become a good wife or a good husband?"; "how should I start this new business you are prompting my heart to start?"
What many us today is to receive assignment from God, then go to people, institutions, authorities and governments to know how to get those assignments done. Imagine a man assigned by God to accomplish a work, who because of his feeling of inadequacy, enroll in a university to get more Masters Degree to be qualified for the work. The best those Universities will do is to package or polish you; they will never succeed to make you suited for the work. It is God who calls, He must qualify you for the work. Enough of running God's errands with man's ideas, intuitions and creations. God's work must be done God's way for easy success and last success to be in place.
I therefore challenge you to come out of every "folly" of man's wisdom; and ask God that "dummy question" to know how He wants you to go about His errands for your life and generation. My prayer is that you will be opened to His wisdom and not become foolish while being wise in your own ways. Stay refreshed in your mind and spirit as we connect again!
